چکیده

We approach nanophotonic computing on the basis of optical near-field interactions between quantum dots. A table lookup, or matrix-vector multiplication, architecture is proposed. As fundamental functionality, a data summation mechanism and digital-to-analog conversion are experimentally demonstrated using CuCl quantum dots. Owing to the diffraction-limit-free nature of nanophotonics, these architectures can achieve ultrahigh density integration compared to conventional bulky optical systems, as well as low power dissipation. key words: nanophotonics, optical signal processing, optical near-field, information processing, nanophotonic computing

Nanometric summation architecture based on optical near-field interaction between quantum dots.

A nanoscale data summation architecture is proposed and experimentally demonstrated based on the optical near-field interaction between quantum dots. Based on local electromagnetic interactions between a few nanometric elements via optical near fields, we can combine multiple excitations at a certain quantum dot, which allows construction of a summation architecture. Summation plays a key role ...

Near-field photodetection with high spatial resolution by nanocrystal quantum dots.

We report a new demonstration of nanoscale solution-processed photodetectors by fabricating a nano-sized gap between two electrodes and drop-casting nanocrystal quantum dots (NCQDs) into the gap. We demonstrate a detection sensitivity of 62 pW with a max responsivity of 2.7 mA/W over a device with a nano-gap of 25 nm. Additionally, we characterize the dependence of signal-to-dark current ratio ...

Nanowire-based plasmonic waveguides and devices for integrated nanophotonic circuits

The fast development of plasmonics have greatly advanced our understanding to the abundant phenomena related to surface plamon polaritons (SPPs) and improved our ability to manipulate light at the nanometer scale. With tightly confi ned local fi eld, SPPs can be transmitted in waveguides of subwavelength dimensions. Nanophotonic circuits built with plasmonic elements can be scaled down to dimen...

Tailoring optical metamaterials to tune the atom-surface Casimir-Polder interaction

Metamaterials are fascinating tools that can structure not only surface plasmons and electromagnetic waves but also electromagnetic vacuum fluctuations. The possibility of shaping the quantum vacuum is a powerful concept that ultimately allows engineering the interaction between macroscopic surfaces and quantum emitters such as atoms, molecules, or quantum dots. The long-range atom-surface inte...
